Eszterházy Károly Catholic University, founded in 1774, is a leading and dynamically developing institution of higher education in Eger and Jászberény. The main profile of the institution - based on its decades-long tradition - is teacher training. The name of the university is attached to the Complex Basic Programme, which is meant to implement the methodological renewal of public education in Hungary, as well as the implementation of the highly practice-oriented Eszterházy Pedagogical Training Model. The institution with nearly 6,500 students and 250 university lecturers is tied to its traditions, cherishes its heritage and pays attention to social processes. Internationally recognized knowledge centres and research groups operate at the university where our researchers conduct applied research with the involvement of economic actors in the region and the support of domestic and international projects. Internationally recognized research in the field of viticulture and winemaking effectively serves sustainable farming in the entire Carpathian basin. As the only domestic higher education institution, the university participates in the 9-year LIFE integrated project of the Ministry of Energy, the aim of which is to support the implementation of the National Energy and Climate Plan. The Coal Commission Secretariate, responsible for coordination and attitude formation, operates in the institution.
