Number of Institutions

Higher education in Ireland is provided mainly by universities and technological universities, institutes of technology and colleges of education. Other third-level institutions provide specialist education in selected fields.

There are twenty-seven public funded education institutions in Ireland comprising of: Eight state universities, five Technological Universities, two institutes of technology, twelve colleges and numerous private institutions.

There are hundreds of scholarships available for international students from a wide variety of sources such as the Government of Ireland Government of Ireland International Education Scholarships | Policy | Higher Education Authority, the Irish higher education institutions and other organisations.

Application Procedures

For non-EU applicants, the application needs to go through the International Office of the university or college that you are applying to. Prior to applying students are strongly encouraged to research course selections using Qualifax the official National Learners Database for Ireland.

Visa and Permits

Students who hold a Singapore passport do not need an entry visa to enter Ireland and do not need a student visa to study in Ireland. However, they must get permission to enter Ireland by reporting to an Immigration Officer at the port of entry, and must register for an Irish Residence Permit (IRP) if studying for more than 3 months.

Students who hold a Singapore passport do not need an entry visa to enter Ireland and do not need a student visa to study in Ireland Visa & Non-Visa Required Nationalities - Immigration Service Delivery. Student Life

Ireland is a smart choice for an education, a career, and for life. Most of the study programmes are structured to include a paid internship. International students studying in Ireland are allowed to work part-time, up to 20 hours per week, during term time and 40 hours per week during holidays. Student accommodation in Ireland includes university-managed residences, purpose-built student housing (PBSA) (private halls), and private rented accommodation. Student life in Ireland includes participating in a wide range of clubs, societies and student organisations that cover various interests from arts to sports and technology.

Life After Studies

Ireland offers the Third Level Graduate Programme Third level graduate programme - Immigration Service Delivery for legally resident Irish educated non-EEA graduates who hold a level 8 or level 9 award from a recognised Irish awarding body. This allows the graduate to remain in Ireland after their studies for a period of twelve months to seek graduate level employment and apply for a general employment permit, a critical skills employment permit or research hosting agreement.

Graduates with an award at Level 9 or above can renew for a further twelve months (subject to the overall eight year limit on student conditions not being exceeded) where the graduate satisfies the immigration authorities that he or she has taken appropriate steps to access suitable graduate level employment (for example, attendance at job interviews or signing up with graduate employment agencies).
